My Favorite Face Masks

Writer's picture: the-everyday-emmathe-everyday-emma

Even with rising numbers of Covid-19 cases across the country, Virginia universities, including William and Mary, are still heading back to campus in August for the Fall semester. Personally, I will be having a mix of online and in-person classes, so I will need to have masks not only for running errands but also for class.

It seems that we will be wearing masks for quite some time, seeing as Coronavirus will be sticking around for the foreseeable future, so I’ve been ordering a few pairs of reusable fabric masks for myself to wear instead of the non-washable blue medical masks.

Both masks that I’ve ordered so far are from Etsy shops. This pineapple print mask has a pocket for a filter, a nose wire, and adjustable straps. This linen mask with a gingham print is smaller in size, doesn’t have a nose wire, and doesn’t have adjustable straps, but it’s relatively easy to breathe in and comes in a kid’s size. Check out my Afternoon in Chesapeake, Virginia to see the linen gingham mask in action! Both Etsy shops also carry many other color and pattern options.

There are so many options for masks on Etsy. This shop ships from Vienna, Virginia, and its masks are made from Liberty of London fabrics. This Los Angeles based shop has mostly tie-dye masks, as well as animal prints and bright neon masks. The masks from this Michigan based shop are made from spandex and board-short material, and it has a wide variety of patterns from rainbow to Wonder Woman. I love these embroidered linen masks that come in adult and kid sizes. If you really want to sparkle, check out these sequined face masks.

In addition to homemade face masks from Etsy, many stores have been selling their own masks. Athleta has two different packs of masks available, including a five-pack of everyday masks and a three-pack of masks made for working out (both packs are on back-order at the moment until early August). This store sells sequin masks that are more expensive than the Etsy ones, but they have sequined masks in patterns like snakeskin and zebra stripes. This store called The Tiny Tassel out of Charleston, South Caroline started to sell face masks in addition to its usual products, including clothes and accessories (check out these earrings!). Finally, these masks from Clare V. are so cute, and they tie in the back, meaning less pressure on the ears which would be great during long classes. Unfortunately, three of the patterns are not available at the moment, but there are two colors still ready to ship.
