My (Ugly) Christmas Sweater Collection

Writer's picture: the-everyday-emmathe-everyday-emma

It’s the most wonderful time of the year because I get to wear my Christmas sweaters!

One of my favorite things about Winter is that it’s cold enough to wear all of my many, many sweaters, which includes a handful, maybe a couple handfuls, of Christmas sweaters. I have a few sweaters that are just red and green with maybe a few simple patterns on them, but I also have multiple fancy, or “ugly,” Christmas sweaters. My inventory includes sweater vests, crewneck sweaters, mock neck sweaters, and cardigans. Whatever Christmas-themed icon it is, Santa Clause, snowmen, presents, or Christmas trees, I’ve got a sweater embroidered with it.

The best Christmas sweaters are vintage ones, and they can’t be found in regular stores (unless you pay too much for a refurbished sweater from Urban Outfitters). So, if you're looking for great "ugly" Christmas sweaters, you have to go searching at second-hand stores. I've found most of the sweaters in my collection in thrift stores nearby, and I even found a couple in charity shops while studying abroad in England.

Back in high school I used to wear a Christmas sweater every day for up to two weeks leading up to Christmas break, and I would tried to get tackier each day. Since then, I've downsized my collection a bit, getting rid of sweaters, turtlenecks, and homemade dresses that got too small over the years. However, I still have a decent number of Christmas sweaters to get me through the holiday season, and I might add a few more if I find any good ones on my trips to thrift stores. Do you have any good "ugly" Christmas sweaters, and if so, where did you end up finding them?
