This past week I’ve been working on final exams and papers for the classes that I took this past Spring semester, and I needed to do something to decompress. I decided to try an activity to take a break from working and to relax. As silly as it may sound, as a 21 year old adult, I decided to make slime. I’ve wanted to try and make slime just for fun for quite awhile. I remember the first time that I made it was back in second grade, and then again in my tenth grade chemistry class. A few years ago, making slime was all the rage. Around that time, there was a group of young girls at my summer pool, where I've worked as an assistant swim coach for a few years, who made batches of slime and sold them at swim meets. They made a bunch of different kinds, some with glitter and some with beads inside. This time, I just made two batches of some basic colored slime, one with normal glue and one with clear glue.

The mixture that I made out of the clear glue with green food coloring reminds me of a mix between Flubber, the movie where Robin Williams creates a green slime creature, and Bob, the blue slime cyclops, from Monsters vs. Aliens, which was a kind good, kinda terrible movie.
Ingredients:
Glue (4 ounce bottle)
½ TBSP baking soda
Food coloring
1 TBSP contact solution

Combine the glue and baking soda first. Then mix in the amount of coloring that you prefer (I added one drop of green food coloring to the clear glue mixture and 3 drops of blue food coloring to the blue mixture, which was maybe a bit too much). Finally, add the contact solution, mixing with a spoon, and then knead the mixture with your hands.
There are many other types of slime that can be made, including fluffy slime, which follows the same recipe, but with an addition of shaving cream that should be added to the mixture before adding the contact solution, which activates the ingredients, turning the combination into slime.

For me, the batch that I made with the clear glue worked out better, creating a more slime-like substance than the regular opaque glue. The regular glue became harder and not as malleable. I think this was because one tablespoon of contact solution was a bit too much for the amount of regular glue that I used. For the clear glue mixture, which was over double the amount of regular glue (9 ounce bottle), I doubled the amount of baking soda and contact solution that I added. If you use a four ounce bottle of glue, I recommend adding slightly less than one tablespoon of contact solution.
Which kinds of slime should I make next? Are there any other DIY or craft projects that you think I should take on?
